Fortnite is a game that one of its developers said is like a “mix of Minecraft and Left 4 Dead”. It has been getting more and more popular, especially with its new Battle Royale mode where 100 people hunt each other down or build fortifications and hide in order to be the last man standing.
Here are six hints to help you become a pro at Fortnite!
1. You will land much faster if you fall over the sea.
Your glider opens at a certain height – but only above land. Fly past the coast, onto the open waters, descend to a comfortable altitude, and only then release the glider. You’ll swoop gently onto land to the envious stares of the other players. And then you’ll be able to start collecting resources and weapons that much sooner!
2. Take to the trees and roofs.
The ground floor and the front door are for novices. If you know what you’re doing you’ll try to land on the nearest tree or house and jump to the ground or hack your way inside with a pickax.
Landing on a roof is your best option: often attics contain chests full of gold and loot. With good luck and some skill you can find one and immediately be ready to meet with the enemy.
3. Those strange blue circles are a feature, not a bug.
Have you ever noticed those weird blue circles that appear when you’re smashing something? They may look like a bug but, actually, they’re the game showing you exactly where you should hit in order to destroy something more quickly.
This is extremely useful both at the start of the game and at the end when you’re trying to catch up to the last player.
4. Don’t leave land.
You would think it would be obvious, but in every single game someone tries to fly to the islands beyond the main one. Those islands are just for decoration though. If you try to get to them you will only drown in the sea so don’t even bother trying.
5. You can divvy your loot or you can dump it.
If you press “I” or one of the special buttons on the right of your screen, when playing on console, you can open your inventory and look at your stats on collected weapons.
You then have the option of throwing out the items you don’t need, or sharing them with your teammates. It’s a small thing, but it can come in very handy.
Some people know this, but the game does not even hint at it so many people don’t. Many times, sharing your resources with your partners is the key to winning the game.
6. There’s a fortune in the fields.
Many players stay in the cities because they think all the gold chests are in the houses but that isn’t the case! The forests and plains often contain as much loot as the cities and houses do, or even more. So don’t stay stuck on the crowded cities, PvP with pickaxes might not be the best way to win.
Of course, these facts and hints won’t win the game for you – as with any video game, Fortnite requires you to use your personal skill and abilities too – but maybe these will help push you over the top to take the prize!
